Pope vs North Paulding 2012

JV Girls

Pope 0 - North Paulding 0

The Junior Varsity girls hit their first true competition of the season Tuesday against North Paulding.  North Paulding held Pope at bay with Gabby Stratton getting the only shot off of the day.  But Pope’s defensive line shut down North Paulding’s offense, ending in a 0-0 tie.  Blair Shortland was key in goal with several saves.  Pope hopes to continue their shutout success against Kell on Thursday.

Varsity Girls

Pope 5 - North Paulding 0

It was a drizzling late afternoon on Tuesday as the Lady Greyhounds took the field in North Paulding , and the natural grass turf was saturated.  Although the Greyhounds lost their footing on several occasions, they still were able to find the back of the net, early and often.

Andrea Richard struck first off a perfect weighted and placed pass from Patricia Tancredi.  Moments later Randi Schroedel sloted a through ball to Andrea Richard who some how crossed the ball back to the middle of the 18 yard box, for the waiting Jessie Sexton.  She took her time and place the ball just past the keeper for the second goal of the night.

Sarah Rose then took a goal kick and sailed the ball over the midfield, on a line drive.  This ball cleared the entire defense, and found Jessie Sexton.  Jessie wasted no time and took off for the goal, with one defender trying to push her wide.  Jessie would have none of it, lined up her shot, and drilled one off the keeper for her second goal of the night.

Alexa Carpenter took a free kick at around the 40 yard line, and found Emily Gaid at the top of the box. Emily Gaid flicked a header onto Jessie Sexton who was waiting at the 6 yard line.  Jessie trapped it, and tapped it home for the HAT TRICK!

The half ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of Pope.

The game got a little physical in the second half, with North Paulding receiving four yellow cards, but that was not enough to slow the greyhounds down.  The team has several more shots on goal.  Parker Schroedel crossed the ball into the center, and the ball magnetically magically found  Jessie Sexton.  Same story, same outcome......GOAL!!!!

JV Boys

The JV Boys took on North Paulding Wednesday night.  Jordan Lieberbaum was hot!  He scored all three goals of the night for his first HAT TRICK of the season.  He scored off passes from Grant PowellConnor Naczi, and a corner kick.  Hats off to a Jordan!

Boys Varsity

The Varsity boys took on the chanting North Paulding Varsity squad just after the JV Boys victory.  Little did they know that the pre-game chant was actually a rain dance.  With ten minutes left in the half, and Pope up by one, here came the Thunderstorms.  The game was cancelled, and will have to be rescheduled.

We will have to make up the game on Saturday, March 10, 2012. We will start where we left off with the score Pope 1 - North Paulding 0, and a North Paulding goal kick. We will complete the last 9:49 of the first half, and then, play the entire 40 minute second half.

The delayed game will start at noon on March 10, 2012, and Coach would like the boys at North Paulding High School no later than 11:15 AM. Since it is only the boys varsity team that needs to play, we will not be getting a Cobb County Bus. We should plan to car pool to the game if anyone needs a ride.

 3-10-2012 - Update

Pope Boys Varsity resumed their rained out soccer game with North Paulding this evening with a 1-0 lead prior to the rain out.

The game was hard fought with numerous Pope shots on goal being slightly off or strong saves by the North Paulding goalkeeper. The team did a great job both offensively and defensively driving the ball continuously into North Paulding territory, but just couldn't score, and the back line was excellent shutting down the forwards and strikers for North Paulding. The game concluded with the score the same as it started...Pope 1 - North Paulding 0.

Hats off to Matt LaFerle, Ben Doran, Carlos Quintana, and Ryan Hanley as the backwall and to Aiden Luna for another shutout ! Offensive pressure was continuous from David Smith, Josh Ziskend, Jonas Voet, Franklin Robinson, Colin Huber and Gabe Pinto.

The North Paulding game wrapped up a solid week for the boys as they won all 3 games this past week.
